Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has reacted after a Swiss Newspaper issued an apology for referring to her as ‘grandmother’ while reporting that she is the new Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
“This grandmother will be the new Chief of the World Trade Organisation,” the newspaper had written.
This elicited criticisms from all over the world as people questioned why “grandmother” was all she could be qualified as despite her achievements.
Nordwestschweiz has now issued an apology.
“We apologize for this editorial mistake,” the statement reads in part.
Reacting to the apology, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said,
“It is important and timely that they have apologized.”
She added:
“We need to call out this behaviour when it happens.”

Meanwhile, The new chair of the World Trade Centre (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, has acknowledged a four-year-old girl-child and other children who modelled her signature Ankara look.
In response to a collage of a kid with one of her photos, the WTO chief prayed for all the children she equally said they will all become great in life as she called the child model beautiful.
Okonjo also appreciated all those who have shown her huge support since her emergence. It should be noted that the kid’s photo was first posted by her dad, Sage Ugo, on his Instagram page.
