Cameroonian fighter Francis Ngannou has issued a heartfelt apology to his fans following a defeat at the hands of Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia on Friday night. The 37-year-old mixed martial artist suffered a second-round knockout against the former world heavyweight champion.
Despite Ngannou’s impressive boxing debut against Tyson Fury last year, he fell short against his more experienced Nigerian-British opponent. The fight took a turn in the first round when Joshua delivered a powerful knockdown, from which Ngannou struggled to recover.
In the second round, a formidable right hand from Joshua prompted the referee to halt the fight, securing the victory for the seasoned boxer.
Ngannou took to his X account to express his remorse, stating, “Apologies to everyone; I feel I let you down. Today was a bad day in the office, but tomorrow will be another day. Thank you all for the love.”
