The Nigeria Football Federation has placed referee Nyah Victor on indefinite suspension for what it described as poor and biased officiating during an NNL match between Rivers FC and Ekiti United in Uyo.

The decision was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the Referee Development Committee and signed by Ameenu Mohammed.

According to the committee, Nyah, who served as the centre referee for the game, awarded a penalty that officials later judged to be without justification.

The statement said, “Our investigation discovered that you awarded an unjustified penalty in the match between Rivers FC and Ekiti United. Your action did not only negatively affect the outcome of the match but equally brings the game to disrepute.”

It added, “In view of this, you have been indefinitely stepped down from all league matches and other matches.”

Nyah’s suspension marks the first disciplinary action taken against a referee in the new NNL season.
