The Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusau, disclosed Thursday that the federation has now paid all outstanding bonuses and allowances owed to the Super Falcons women’s national team.
Gusau made the statement while addressing a House committee probing disputes between the Falcons and NFF over unpaid compensation.
The NFF president explained the delays as procedural issues, not intentionally withholding funds. He said FIFA provides the federation’s operational budgets, including the recent allocation of $960,000 to all 32 teams qualifying for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Gusau clarified that these FIFA preparation funds are earmarked for training and cannot cover old debts like 2019 World Cup bonuses. “We can’t use this money to pay outstanding allowances for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup”, Gusau said.
But he confirmed the Super Falcons were fully paid last Friday.
