Violence erupted in some wards in Ekiti State on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress conducted its ward congresses across the 16 government areas.

The disagreement over the consensus mode that the party's national body had adopted for the congresses as a section led to the violence.

Sources alleged that a person who sustained injuries in the violence that erupted in one of the wards in Ado Ekiti, died at the hospital while others were receiving treatment following injuries sustained, The PUNCH reports.

One of the sources said, "After the congress was concluded at Ward 10, there was disagreement among some boys which led to a free-for-all. One of them, Jide, was stabbed and rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead."

While the group loyal to Governor Kayode Fayemi, who embraced consensus had expected smooth sail in the exercise, the other group, mainly members of South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023, which had advocated proper election, maintained their stand.

That culminated in violence as sources alleged that political thugs were unleashed on the people with many sustaining injuries and vehicles destroyed.

Among wards where violence broke out in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital were wards 4, 8, 9, and 10 where thugs were allegedly on the rampage to disrupt voting.

SWAGA State chairman, Senator Tony Adeniyi, who bemoaned the violence during the congresses, said, "There was no election today in Ekiti because there was no accreditation across the wards.

The Fayemi Tokan Tokan people manipulated the process and prevented people from voting for their preferred leaders, especially SWAGA members.
