The Osi Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Ladoja, has endorsed the nomination of Senator Lekan Balogun as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
WuzupNigeria reported that the recently deceased Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, joined his ancestors at the age of 93 in the early hours of Sunday after battling a brief illness at the University of Ibadan College Hospital, Oyo State.
As the palace moved to install the next Olubadan of Ibadanland, ten of 11 members of the Olubadan-in-Council endorsed the nomination of Dr Lekan Balogun on Wednesday, WuzupNigeria reports.
The former Oyo State Governor, Ladoja, was not present during the nomination.
Subsequently, a letter was written to Governor Seyi Makinde by a former Attorney General of the state, Michael Lana, seeking the governor to withhold the approval for the appointment of Lekan Balogun.
However, Ladoja who is the third in command in the Olubadan-in-Council hierarchy, has now pulled his weight behind the decision of the kingmakers, denying involvement in the letter.
This is just as the kingmakers insisted that no court case would stop the appointment and installation of the next Olubadan.
While receiving visitors at his Bodija house on Thursday, Ladoja said, “Uninformed people are just causing unnecessary tension in Ibadan.
“There is no controversy about who becomes the next Olubadan after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogunguniso 1.”
