Okonjo-Iweala’s son performs record-breaking surgery using robot in US

Dr. Uchechi Iweala, son of the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonji-Iweala, has made a remarkable record-breaking surgical procedure using a robot.

The WTO boss’ son who holds a Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees from Harvard was one of the first spinal surgeons in Maryland, United States to perform a successful navigated lumbar spinal fusion using a robot.

Proud mum, Dr. Ngozi, shared the good news with her 1.6M Twitter followers on Thursday alongside photos of the remarkable moment.

“Congratulations Dr. Uchechi Iweala, on being one of the first spinal surgeons in Maryland to perform a successful navigated lumbar spinal fusion using a robot! So proud to be your Mum! Keep it going,” the WTO boss captioned the tweet.

The Havard graduate majors in Robotic Spine Surgery, Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Cervical and Lumbar Disc Replacement, Spinal Fusion/Arthrodesis, Nerve Releases, etc.

Dr. Uchechi completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at George Washington University. He is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery.
