NAF to get 36 new aircraft - Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force will soon receive 36 aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's security infrastructure.

Buhari made the announcement on Monday at the 3rd Ministerial Performance Review Retreat at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The two-day retreat is intended to evaluate the administration's progress since the second edition in October 2021.

Also, it will offer an opportunity for self-assessment, appraisal of progress made, and quantification of the impact of work done, ensuring that the government remains centred on delivering the manifesto pledges it made to Nigerians.

The theme of this year's edition is "Enhance security, fight corruption, transform the economy."

In his opening remarks, the President stated that the government has made significant investments in arms, weapons, and other critical military hardware, as well as continuous training for the Armed Forces.

He added that the Nigerian Air Force, which has already acquired 38 new aircraft, is expecting another batch of 36 new ones, while the Nigerian Navy has new platforms, sophisticated riverine, Rigid-Hull Inflatable, Seaward Defence, Whaler and Fast Attack Boats, as well as Helicopters and Capital Ships.

Meanwhile, 20,000 police officers have been recruited, trained, fully integrated, and deployed in 2020 and 2021 as part of efforts to increase the number of police officers. This exercise has reinforced the community policing strategy, which is codified in the Police Act of 2020.
