Military confirms fresh Plateau killings, search for gunmen
The Nigeria Army has confirmed the killings of some villagers in Plateau State in the early hours of Wednesday.
WuzupNigeria reported that at least seventeen (17) residents were killed as gunmen invaded the Ncha community, Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
According to a witness, several people were injured in the attack that lasted for several hours and houses were burnt by the assailants.
The Military Taskforce in charge of maintaining peace in the state, Operation Safe Haven, confirmed the attack in a statement signed by its Military Information Officer, Major Takwa Ishaku.
He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives during the attack, pledging to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to Ishaku, the operatives of Operation SAFE HAVEN are in pursuit of the assailants. He added that the force will release an update on the pursuit later.
“In the late hours of Tuesday 11 January 2022, troops of OPERATION SAFE HAVEN received a distress call of an attack on Acha Community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.
“The troops responded swiftly and mobilised to the village. On reaching the community, the attackers had fled the village. Houses were destroyed and some villagers lost their lives during the attack.
“Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN are on the trail of the assailants and details of the pursuit would be made available later.
“The Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN Maj Gen Isa Ali, while commiserating with the families of those who lost their lives during the attack has reiterated his resolve to ensure perpetrators of evil on the Plateau face the consequences of their dastard acts,” the statement read.
