Many Muslim faithful gathered in Kano State to pray for divine intervention to end insecurity and other challenges affecting Nigeria on Saturday.

The prayer sessions, which was led by the leader of the Tijjaniyya sect from Algeria, Maulana Sheikh Ali Bil-Arabi, a grandson of the late founder of the sect, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani, was held in a fully packed Sani Abacha Stadium at Kofar Mata area.

Speaking at the event, President Muhammadu Buhari said the fight against insecurity and other challenges in Nigeria needed divine intervention to complement the effort being put in place by the federal government.

Buhari, represented by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, said the administration had not and would not relax on its effort to restore peace and security in every corner of the country.

The president commended the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for taking the step towards ensuring peace in the country by organising the national prayer.

Ganduje said because of prayers and the synergy among security agencies in the state there had been, “No tribal or religious problem; no armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry and other vices in Kano.”

The governor also requested the leader of the Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who was among the clerics in attendance, to bring the next Maulid of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass to Kano State.
