Hoodlums invade Rivers police division, free inmates

Hoodlums have broken into the cell of Okrika Police Division, Okirika, Rivers State, setting several inmates free.

The incident happened around 2am on Tuesday, January 4.

A police source disclosed that the hoodlums broke the padlocks to the cell, opened the back door of the cell where the inmates escaped from.

He said the matter had already been reported to the Police Headquarters, Abuja and the state Police Command, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

The source said, “The hoodlums broke the padlock of the cell, and also opened the back door of the cell where the inmates escaped from around 2am on Tuesday.”

The state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko also confirmed the incident.

Iringe-Koko said the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, has ordered his deputy, Patrick Longe, to investigate the matter.

She added that the officers on duty during the time of the incident have been arrested and detained as part of the investigation.
