Gridlock as FUTA students block expressway to protest colleague’s death
Aggrieved students of the Federal University of Technology have caused a major gridlock along the Akure–Ilesa Expressway, Akure, Ondo State, to protest the death of a colleague.
The PUNCH reports that the unnamed student reportedly had an accident on Monday evening but was allegedly denied access to the institution’s hospital, leading to his death.
According to the protesters, the school’s security guards did not open the gate for them to take the victim to the hospital, after the accident, adding that the victim would have survived if he had been allowed to be taken to the hospital.
An eyewitness confirmed that the protest had led to a serious traffic jam on the busy expressway.
The Head of Media and Protocols, of the university, Mr Adengbenro Adebanjo confirmed the development.
