Ekweremadu: Kidney donor not a minor, UK court rules
A Westminster Magistrates Court in the United Kingdom, on Thursday, cleared the controversy surrounding the age of David Nwamini Ukpo, the alleged kidney donor for the daughter of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, by ruling that he is not 15 years old.
The UK court ruled that Ukpo is 21-year-old and not 15 as he claimed earlier.
Arise TV reported that the Ukpo has admitted to the court that he is 21 years old and had been in the UK since February but only presented himself to the police in May.
Premium Politics reported that the London Metropolitan Police said it had arrested Senator Ekweremadu and his wife over allegations of conspiring to bring a child to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting.
Also, the Nigerian Immigration Service on the 27th of June confirmed the age of the alleged victim of organ harvesting.
The Comptroller General of NIS, Mr Isah Idris, disclosed that the said kidney donor was 21, and not 15 as claimed.
“To support his application, Mr. Nwamini presented all the necessary documents required, including his birth certificate issued by National Population Commission, showing 12 October 2000, as his date of birth; his National Identity Number , issued by NIMC corroborating the date of birth; a certificate of origin issued by Ebonyi State Government Liaison Office Abuja, and a Guarantor’s form duly signed,” he stated.
