Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, made a myth-busting revelation about birds and witchcraft on Wednesday.
Omokri who is now based overseas made the revelation in one of his recent #RenoNuggets via his verified Twitter handle.
The former aide who served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan claimed that birds are not evil, against a widespread belief in Nigeria that claims some birds can be possessed and sent to attack people by some disgruntled relatives.
The myth ‘Village people’ refers to witches, evildoers, sorcerers, enchanters, and so on from a particular household or hometown with the sole purpose of destroying and making life miserable for their kin.
He tweeted, “Birds live in trees. When humans cut up all the trees in a community, birds lose their homes. That is why more birds are flying into your homes. They are looking for shelter because we took their homes. They are NOT evil birds sent to harm us by village people!”
However, Omokri was challenged by a tweep who apparently still thinks of his ‘village people’ otherwise.
Responding, Omokri tried explaining what birds do at night when they have returned to their nests.
“Do you not return to your home every night and chat with your friends and family? So, why do you think a bird will not do the same thing?
“Don’t be like that Mummy GO who is sending everybody to hellfire for the flimsiest reasons,” he added.
The myth, though of an unknown origin, is usually used amidst the Yoruba and Igbo speaking Nigerians.
Although it is used interchangeable amongst youth to humour themselves, it is in no way related to comedian, Bovi’s 2021 Nigerian comedy thriller – ‘My village People’.
