The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission will on Wednesday present certificates of return to newly elected chairmen and councillors across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.
The chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd), confirmed the development during a phone call. She explained that the event was initially set for Tuesday but was postponed because of the national public holiday declared to mourn former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“It was supposed to hold on Tuesday, but due to the public holiday on that day, it has been moved to the next working day, which is Wednesday,” she said.
An official of the commission who spoke anonymously said the certificates will be presented at the LASIEC headquarters.
“All elected local government chairmen and councillors are expected to receive their certificates of return on Wednesday,” the official said.
The local government elections held on Saturday, July 12, saw the All Progressives Congress win all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions. The Peoples Democratic Party secured one councillorship seat in Ward D of Yaba LCDA, where Babatunde Dosunmu defeated his APC opponent.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile officially announced the results on Sunday at the commission’s office in Sabo, Yaba.
