New Alapomu of Apomu, Osun State, Oba Adenekan Afolabi, on Friday received Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment.
The royal father, who was crowned by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was also presented his paraphernalia of office by Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who expressed confidence in his ability to bring speedy development to the town.
Oyetola, who was represented by Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Razaq Adeosun, described the royal father as a round peg in a round hole and charged him to make interest of his people a priority.
Speaking at the event attended by wife of Osun State Governor, Kafayat Oyetola, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Oloffa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamonsi, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi amongst others, Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, described Apomu as a very important part of Yorubaland, with Ile-Ife as its source.
According to him, “this town remains a very important part of the Oduduwa territory not only because it’s a direct creation of Ife-Ife but also for the strategic roles Apomu had played in the past in Yorubaland.
“That’s why Alaafin is here, Olofa is here, Akinrun is here, Oluwo is here and several monarchs. The new Alapomu is a well educated gentleman. He is as an embodiment of Oodua cultural values who is ready to take Apomu to greater heights.”
Addressing the gathering, Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Adenekan Afolabi, said he was a direct descendant of the Giesi Ruling House of Ile-Ife.
“Some people might wonder about my style of dressing here today, it is deliberate to show my root as my father came from Ile Ife to settle down in Apomu many centuries ago.
“I am from Gbegbaje branch of Giesi ruling house in Ife, my great uncle was the 40th Ooni of Ife who reigned between 1823 to 1835,” Oba Adenekan said.
He promised to work hard to bring speedy development to Apomu and called for support of indigenes of the town to bring his dreams to reality.
