Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci is facing backlash after a video of a dissatisfied customer complaining about the N6,000 pepper soup she purchased from Hilda’s restaurant went viral on social media.
The viral video showed the customer expressing her disappointment over the portion size and quality of the pepper soup.
According to the customer, the food was delivered cold and poorly presented. She called the dish “dog vomit” and criticized the restaurant for using her meal as an “experiment.”
“If you are going to work on your portion of food, why did you use my food as an experiment? How much is a kilo of turkey? It was not even hot. If you know you will increase your prices, increase your portions. I am so pissed,” she said.
The customer also claimed that the restaurant’s customer service team responded by saying they were “working on their food portions.”
The video sparked heated discussions on X (formerly Twitter). Some users sided with the customer, criticizing the restaurant for the high prices and unsatisfactory portions. Others defended Hilda Baci, arguing that customers should expect premium pricing at a high-end restaurant.
Wizarab10 commented, “You’re not the target market.”
Dotboyswag10 wrote, “If I buy 6k pepper soup for this Ibadan, I no fit finish am in one sitting. Hilda Baci pepper soup werey wo.”
Exspada_San added, “Someone is giving a review of something she bought with her own money, and clowns on the internet are saying she shouldn’t because she’s not the target market. When Hilda opened that restaurant, why didn’t she write her target market on the wall?”
Moyoxoxo_ noted, “If it was you people that ordered pepper soup for 6k and got that, you would rant too. But because it’s not you, it’s ‘it’s not by force to buy from her.’”
Singer Davido’s former lawyer, Bobo Ajudua, also joined the conversation. On his X page, he told the customer to research Nigeria’s top 10 most expensive areas and manage her expectations. He added, “Better hold your 6k and stay at home or look for a local mama put if you want pepper soup.”
The controversy has further extended to other items on Hilda’s menu, with reports of a plate of rice costing N12,000. Many Nigerians are now questioning whether the restaurant lives up to its hype.
Cece Abashi, a Twitter user, wrote, “The comments on the 6k pepper soup are crazy. Why are you people justifying what Hilda Baci did? She spent 6k only to be served that!”
