Chief Executive Officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, was at the White House on Thursday for discussions connected to the company’s proposed acquisition of selected assets from Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), CNBC has reported.

His visit came just before Warner Bros. Discovery released a statement suggesting that a fresh offer from Paramount Skydance to purchase the entire company appeared to represent a “superior proposal.”

A White House official, speaking to CNBC, clarified that Sarandos was not scheduled to meet with Donald Trump.

“This meeting is not with POTUS,” the official said, adding “Netflix is meeting with staff members at the White House.”

The development follows recent remarks by Trump, who earlier in the week urged Netflix to remove former national security adviser Susan Rice from its board or “pay the consequences.”

In December, Netflix disclosed plans to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery’s film studio, as well as HBO and the HBO Max streaming platform, in a transaction valued at $72 billion.

Concurrently, Paramount Skydance tabled a competing bid seeking to take over Warner Bros. Discovery in its entirety, including its portfolio of cable television networks.
