Nestle shuts down production in Israel amid conflict
Nestlé a multinational food and beverage company has announced the temporary shutdown of one of its production plants in Israel as a precautionary measure in response to the ongoing conflict Israel-Palestinian conflict which has led to the death of over 3,000 and several destructions of buildings.
This marks the first response from a consumer products giant in relation to the recent developments in the region.
Global companies have been taking similar actions in Israel, urging employees to work from home as a result of the surprise attack by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.
Mark Schneider, Nestlé’s Chief Executive, stated, “Our focus is on keeping our colleagues and employees safe. I have no comment on the development of the business. We’ve taken necessary precautions.”
While some companies, including those in the retail, healthcare, and oil sectors, have voiced their positions on the matter, multinational packaged goods companies have generally remained silent.
Nestlé has maintained a presence in Israel since the 1930s operating various production and distribution centers within the nation.
In the Israeli market, the company offers a diverse array of goods, encompassing infant formula, chocolate, coffee, and various other food and beverage items.
