The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has sealed off 21 facilities in Abuja for failing to follow environmental laws.

The affected companies include real estate and construction firms like Ochacho Real Homes in Idu, Cosgrove’s Shopping Mall Project in Wuse II, Belmont Court in Idu, and several others.

Professor Innocent Barikor, the Director General of NESREA, led the operation. He said the agency took action after receiving many complaints from the public about how these companies were harming the environment.

“There have been too many complaints about how these projects are damaging the environment,” Barikor said. “We cannot continue to allow people to ignore our laws. These actions go against the National Environmental (Construction Sector) Regulations 2011 and the Environmental Impact Assessment Act.”

He added that NESREA will no longer tolerate such disregard for the environment.

Other sealed facilities include:

White Avenue Real Estate in Lugbe
CCECC sites at FIRS and the Central Business District
Mo Mouna Construction in Katampe
Practis Project
Istrom Construction
MAB Global Estate in Idu
Anarock Global Services Limited
Quali Trends Nigeria Limited
Boked International Limited
Tim Tali Transport Limited
Matilda Rozi Limited
Efedi Homes at Kukwaba District
T’lon Construction and Facilities Management
Cosgrove’s Estate Project in the Central Business District
Constrix in Idu
Tayyib Homes Limited in Lugbe

NESREA says it will continue to monitor companies to make sure they follow environmental rules. Professor Barikor warned that those who refuse to comply will face serious penalties.
