The National Emergency Management Agency has received 180 Nigerians stranded in Libya.
The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday around 7 p.m. aboard an Air Libya flight with registration number 5A-BAE.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office, the return was done in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration and other partners.
The statement said the group consisted of 147 adults, including 45 men and 102 women, 19 children, and 14 infants. It added that 46 of the returnees had medical issues and were immediately attended to by health officials.
“Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service carried out biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate profiling and smooth reintegration of the returnees,” NEMA said.
The agency explained that the Federal Government provided food, water, medical care, and counselling to ensure the safe and dignified return of the migrants.
“The seamless and well-organised operation reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting the welfare and dignity of Nigerians returning from crisis-affected regions,” the statement added.
