The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized 502,280 pills of opioids and other drugs in separate raids across Nasarawa, Gombe, Kano, and Borno states.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday that the operations, which took place between August 26 and 30, led to multiple arrests.
He said in Nasarawa, a 36-year-old suspect was caught on Thursday at Abacha Park, Mararaba Karu, with 79,040 pills of tramadol and diazepam. Another suspect, 47, was also arrested in Lafia with 30,410 pills of tramadol and Rohypnol.
“Also recovered from him were 38 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup concealed in a deep freezer from Asaba, Delta, on August 26,” Babafemi said.
In a related operation, the NDLEA arrested a 23-year-old man in Ngorore, Adamawa, on August 27 after his waybilled consignment of 15,000 tramadol capsules hidden inside sacks of animal feed was intercepted at the Gombe Mega Park.
Babafemi added that two suspects were arrested along the Kano-Hadeja road on August 26 with 1.5kg of skunk and 25,000 pills of exol-5.
“Two other suspects, aged 37 and 42, were nabbed by NDLEA officers on Thursday along Zaria-Kano road, Gadan Tamburawa,” he said. “They were caught with 8,080 bottles of a new psychoactive substance and 25.7kg of skunk.”
In another operation in the Zango area of Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, NDLEA operatives seized no fewer than 250,000 tablets of exol-5 from a 25-year-old suspect on Saturday.
