The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized illegal drugs worth over N2.6 billion in Jigawa State.

The Commander of the NDLEA in the state, Musa Maina, announced this while parading the suspects and the seized drugs at the agency’s headquarters in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday.

According to Maina, the drugs were tracked and seized in Gumel after a three-day operation that covered parts of Jigawa and Kano states.

“Three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure, and two vehicles were impounded,” Maina said.

He named the arrested suspects as Jamilu Muhammad, Abba Ibrahim, and Shuaibu Umar. He explained that they were caught while transporting the drugs to different areas in Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, and even the Niger Republic.

Maina added, “The vehicles seized included a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater Hummer bus, both loaded with drugs.”

He further revealed that the seized drugs included 118.6 tons of Tramadol tablets and 195.3 kilograms of Pregabalin capsules, among others.

“The operation was planned for a long time and was successful due to intelligence gathering,” he said.

Maina described the seizure as the biggest success the NDLEA has recorded in its fight against drug trafficking in Jigawa State.

He said the suspects are still under investigation to find out who is behind the large supply of drugs.

The NDLEA Commander stressed the agency’s commitment to fighting drug crimes, saying, “NDLEA would not relent in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, and our commitment to fighting drug trafficking is evident in its actions.”

He also confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court, adding, “The NDLEA will ensure that they are prosecuted accordingly. The agency’s actions are a deterrent to would-be drug traffickers.”
