The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 157 suspects and seized 134.483 kilograms of illicit drugs in Ebonyi State.

The Ebonyi State Commander of the agency, Mr Jude Ahamefule, disclosed this on Monday in Abakaliki while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Ahamefule said the arrests and seizures were recorded between October and December 2025, noting that the suspects comprised 123 males and 34 females, out of whom six have already been convicted.

He explained that the drugs recovered during the period included cannabis sativa, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, diazepam, and other psychotropic substances.

According to him, the command seized 106.978 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 2,619 capsules of tramadol (100mg), 1.407 kilograms of methamphetamine described as 303 pinches, 700 tablets of diazepam weighing 0.0589 kilograms, and 480 millilitres of phenobarbitone syrup, among other substances.

“We rehabilitated and discharged four clients and admitted six within the period under review,” Ahamefule said.

He added that a total of 12 clients are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the agency’s facility in the state, while 44 suspects were referred to the counselling unit of the command during the same period.

The commander reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Ebonyi State, warning those involved in the illegal trade to desist.

He said the NDLEA would continue to intensify efforts to curb drug-related crimes in the state and across the country.

The NDLEA is a federal law enforcement agency responsible for combating the cultivation, production, trafficking and abuse of hard drugs in Nigeria.
