The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for trying to smuggle 1.3 kg of cocaine while posing as pregnant.
Ezewuike, who runs Golden Star Creation in Okota, Lagos, was caught at a Jibowu bus terminal in Yaba on August 22, 2025, while attempting to deliver the drug to clients in Abuja. A follow-up raid at her Ago Palace Way home yielded 200 g of a cutting agent used in preparing cocaine.
She told investigators she inherited the drug trade from her late husband, who died two years ago, although she had run her fashion business for over 20 years.
In the same week, NDLEA seized 48.6 kg of “Loud” (a strong form of cannabis) hidden in cartons of kitchen sinks imported from the US at a Lagos courier firm. Across the country, more raids recovered tramadol pills, codeine syrup, and opiates. NDLEA also carried out farm burnings and drug destruction operations in states including Delta, Edo, Ondo, Taraba, and Ekiti.
This series of actions marks a significant crackdown in the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), with NDLEA Chairman Brig-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commending officers for their bravery and urging continued vigilance combined with public awareness.
In another development, the Nigeria Police Force has repatriated a notorious Chinese gang leader, Dai Qisheng, in a major INTERPOL-coordinated operation. The gang leader, wanted in Guizhou Province for violent organised crimes, fled China in 2024 and hid in Abuja until his arrest on August 8, 2025. He was extradited to Beijing on August 15, under the police-to-police framework that demonstrated a strong commitment against transnational crime.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, stated that the operation sends a firm message: criminals should know that Nigeria will not be a safe haven. He praised the international cooperation that made the arrest possible.
