The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested no fewer than 129 suspects and seized 709.9 kilogrammes of illicit substances in Kano State.
In a statement on Wednesday, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, said the agency also secured 22 convictions.
“The agency arrested 129 suspects — all are males; the total illicit substances recovered under the period is 709.979kg, which is made up of 309.991kg of cannabis sativa.
Others are 394.835kg of various psychotropic substances, comprising 741,600 tablets of Tramadol, 2.789kg of pregabalin, and 0.027kg of methamphetamine, among others.”
Idris-Ahmad said the suspects have been profiled, with those deserving prosecution charged in court. Others would be counselled and rehabilitated.
He commended the NDLEA Chairman, Mohammed Marwa, for his “steadfast support and inspiration, which greatly contributed to the agency’s remarkable accomplishments under his leadership”.
The commander expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for their cooperation and support in the battle against drug abuse.
“Together, we can build a healthier and safer society,” he added.
