Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested two individuals in separate incidents for attempting to export illegal drugs from Nigeria.

A businesswoman based in Ibadan, Mrs. Adewunmi Adebola Dorcas, and an auto parts dealer Arinze Ora, were apprehended over attempts to send consignments of opioids and cocaine to London and Congo Brazzaville, respectively.

According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, officers intercepted a shipment at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on September 6, containing 924 bottles of codeine syrup and 5,250 Rohypnol tablets.

The consignment, concealed in foodstuff cartons, was traced to Mrs. Adewunmi through a freight agent and her son. Further investigation led to her arrest in Ibadan.

In a separate incident on September 11, NDLEA officers at the Lagos Airport uncovered 300 grams of cocaine hidden in containers of custard powder bound for Congo.

This led to the arrest of the sender, Arinze Ora, at his auto parts shop in Lagos.

The NDLEA also arrested drug traffickers in other operations across Nigeria, including two brothers involved in smuggling cocaine to Vietnam and several suspects in possession of tramadol, cannabis, and codeine. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), commended the officers for their efforts and urged them to continue intensifying operations against drug trafficking.
