The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested two wanted drug kingpins, including Damilare Ajiboye, also known as “Na God,” after 12 months of evading capture.

The arrest took place following a raid on Ajiboye’s warehouse in the Akala area of Mushin, Lagos.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed Ajiboye’s arrest, which occurred on Wednesday. “The agency recovered 1,101kg of Ghana Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, during the raid on September 4, 2023,” Babafemi said.

Ajiboye was arrested at a bank in Ogun State after the agency’s Directorate of Assets and Financial Investigation traced 20 bank accounts linked to him and blocked them.

In another major operation, NDLEA operatives in Lagos arrested Alhaji Bashir Talba, a wanted community leader and Sarkin Yamma of Badagry, on Friday. This followed the earlier arrest of his two wives and son, and the seizure of 226.2kg of cannabis at their homes in Badagry on September 18.

Additionally, NDLEA officers recovered over 9.7kg of cannabis and 50 liters of “monkey tail” (a mixture of cannabis and dry gin) from a suspect, Florence Moses, in the Badore area of Ajah, Lekki on September 24.

In Kogi State, three suspects—Owolabi Dele, 42, Ayodele Monday, 40, and Olawale Ojo, 22—were arrested while transporting 132 sacks of cannabis, weighing 2,062kg, along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway. They were caught in a Mercedes container truck heading to Abuja.

Another suspect, Benedict Simire, 57, was apprehended on Ayetoro road, Kabba, with 33.4kg of cannabis and a pump-action gun with six cartridges.

Babafemi added that NDLEA’s Marine Command intercepted a boat carrying 71 bags of Ghana Loud, weighing 2,982kg, at Alfa Beach, Lekki. While the suspects in the boat managed to escape, officers recovered the boat with support from the Nigerian Customs Service.

In Rivers State, NDLEA operatives at the Port Harcourt Ports complex intercepted 1,500 cartons of codeine-based cough syrup, containing 150,000 bottles, during a joint operation with the Nigerian Customs and other security agencies.
