The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Tincan Island Port Strategic Command in Lagos State revealed its achievements for 2024, announcing the arrest of 38 drug suspects and the seizure of 339,576.91 kilograms of drugs with an estimated street value of N134.2 billion.

The Command’s Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this during a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday.

He explained that the seized drugs included Codeine, which accounted for 305,323.37 kilograms; Tapentadol, weighing 13.37 kilograms; Tafradol, totaling 11,230.8 kilograms; and Benzhexol, with a quantity of 5,888.8 kilograms.

Other drugs seized included 3,601.25 kilograms of Cannabis Indica, 83.301 kilograms of Methamphetamine, 56.39 kilograms of Cocaine, and 23 kilograms of Heroin.

Ofoyeju highlighted the significance of these operations, stating, “These operations have not only disrupted drug supply chains but have also significantly promoted public health and safety.”

He noted that the command successfully secured 12 convictions while 26 cases were still pending in court.

Ofoyeju recalled a major operation in January 2024 when the command intercepted narcotic drugs, firearms, and ammunition concealed in a container. He stressed the need for vigilance, saying, “We are determined to protect the country from the painful grip of kidnapping, gruesome murder, and other crimes aggravated by drugs.”

The Commander emphasized the link between the command’s efforts and national peace. “If drugs and arms do not get to criminals, there will be peace,” he said. Ofoyeju added that the command’s activities contributed to the safety and well-being of citizens while supporting legitimate commerce and economic growth.

To motivate officers and ensure transparency, the command initiated an annual award for outstanding performance. In 2024, six officers received awards, along with a journalist from *This Day Newspapers* for their contributions to the fight against drug trafficking.

The occasion also saw the launch of the first edition of the *Tincan Strategic Command Quarterly Newsletter,* aimed at sharing successes, promoting transparency, and keeping stakeholders informed about the command’s efforts.

Ofoyeju concluded by reaffirming the NDLEA’s commitment to making the Tincan Island Port impenetrable to drug cartels, saying, “No stone will be left unturned in our fight against drug trafficking.”
