The Niger Delta Development Commission has called on oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region to lessen their gas flaring and reduce environmental pollution, emphasizing the negative impact of these practices on the climate.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC, made this statement during a courtesy visit by a delegation from TotalEnergies Nigeria Limited at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The NDDC also expressed its commitment to collaborating with International Oil Companies and other development partners to boost investments in renewable energy projects aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change in the Niger Delta.
According to Pius Ughakpoteni, the Director of Corporate Affairs at NDDC, Ogbuku stressed the importance of sustainable partnerships in driving the development process.
He highlighted the commission’s mutual relationship with the Oil Producers Trade Section of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries, which includes the IOCs, and its focus on infrastructural development in their operational areas.
Mr. Obi Imemba, the Executive Director of Joint Venture Assets at TotalEnergies Nigeria Limited, praised the NDDC for its role in the development of the Niger Delta.
He expressed his company’s belief in partnerships as a critical factor for ensuring sustainability in the region.
