The Niger Delta Development Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive and sustainable development for children across the Niger Delta region.

According to The Punch, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, stated this during the commemoration of the 2026 International Children’s Day celebration held in Port Harcourt.

The event, themed “The Future Now – Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” focused on ensuring equal opportunities for children regardless of their background or social status.

Represented by the NDDC Deputy Director of Education, Health and Social Services, Mrs Chioma Nwakwue, Ogbuku said the commission remains committed not only to infrastructure development but also to the welfare and growth of children in the region.

“Children’s Day is more than just any celebration. It is a reminder of our duty to protect every child in the Niger Delta region and give them equal opportunities, regardless of their diversity and background,” he said.

Ogbuku noted that the theme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of the Year of Families and Social Development and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“At the NDDC, we align with the Renewed Hope Agenda to improve education, healthcare, social protection, and economic opportunities for Nigerians,” he added.

The NDDC boss further stressed that sustainable development begins with investing in children through quality education, healthcare, digital empowerment, and social welfare programmes.

“Through investments in education, healthcare, school infrastructure, skills, digital empowerment, and social welfare, the NDDC is committed to building a more inclusive and prosperous Niger Delta,” he stated.

One of the speakers at the event, Dr Moses Egorerua, urged children to take their education seriously, describing it as a vital tool for personal and societal development.

He also encouraged them to make productive use of social media for learning and self improvement while participating in community service to develop leadership skills and social responsibility.

As part of the celebration, the NDDC distributed U lesson tablets, school bags, and other educational materials to children in attendance.
