The media office of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has said the recent judgment delivered by the Lokoja High Court on the party’s registration status represents only a temporary challenge and will be contested through the legal process.

The position was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) and signed by its spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr.

According to the statement, the organisation has received numerous inquiries from journalists and concerned Nigerians seeking clarification on the court’s decision.

POMR appealed to Obi’s supporters, political allies, and members of the public to remain calm while its legal team completes a review of the judgment and prepares the necessary appeal. It stressed that the ruling would not derail the group’s broader political agenda.

The media office stated that it had anticipated institutional obstacles in its effort to challenge the existing political order, describing the Lokoja court’s decision as a temporary hurdle rather than a setback capable of undermining its long-term objectives.

“We have received the news of today’s bizarre ruling from the court in Lokoja regarding the legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

“While our legal teams are thoroughly reviewing the judgment to initiate immediate corrective and appellate measures, our Principal urges all our supporters, coalition partners, and patriots nationwide to remain absolutely calm and focused,” the statement said.

POMR further maintained that the legal development would not alter its commitment to providing Nigerians with an alternative political platform, expressing confidence that the matter would be addressed through the judicial process.
