The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has vowed to sanction airlines that fail to address issues of flight delays, especially during the busy travel season.

The NCAA’s Head of Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, made this statement on Saturday during a public sensitization road walk in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He highlighted the rise in flight disruptions and passenger complaints during the festive season.

“We’re now in the high travel season in aviation, and as you know, there’s been a lot of flight disruptions as well as complaints,” Achimugu said.

He emphasized the NCAA’s role in educating passengers about their rights and responsibilities. “Our duty at NCAA is to sensitize our passengers because most of the time, complaints about these disruptions come from a place of poor knowledge about their rights and responsibilities as air passengers. We must protect both the passenger and the airline,” he added.

Achimugu also urged passengers to stay informed about the causes of delays and to exercise patience during the season, assuring them that the NCAA would ensure airlines are held accountable for unnecessary disruptions.
