The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has simplified the certification process for obtaining approvals and permits by airlines.

Speaking over the weekend in Lagos, the Acting Director-General of NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, shared insights into the agency’s efforts to transition into a digitized certification process for airlines in Nigeria.

Najomo explained, “Change Management refers to transitioning from traditional methods of operations to new, more efficient digital systems with step-by-step implementation of the EMPIC-EAP system into NCAA’s operations.”

The Acting DG emphasized that the streamlining efforts wouldn’t be limited to the licensing system alone but would extend to other authorizations, approvals, and permits.

Najomo underscored the importance of this transition, stating, “This is a derivative of the ease of doing business philosophy towards encouraging growth of the aviation industry.”

In addition to simplifying the process, Najomo revealed that the agency is actively pursuing ISO 9001 Certification to elevate standards in the aviation sector.

He stated, “Achieving ISO 9001 certification would demonstrate NCAA’s commitment to providing a high level of service, improving aviation stakeholders’ satisfaction, and meeting all statutory and regulatory requirements.”

Najomo further highlighted the significance of ISO 9001 certification in showcasing NCAA’s robust quality management system.

He outlined the agency’s broader objective, stating, “The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority aims to implement a robust risk-based surveillance system. This is intended to close any gap opened by the increased validity period of AOCs for unscheduled and scheduled operators.”

He clarified that this surveillance, covering safety, security, and economic monitoring, would be extended to all service providers, showcasing the agency’s commitment to comprehensive oversight.
