Olumide Akpata, the immediate past president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has stepped down from his role as senior partner at Templars, a leading Nigerian law firm.
Templars announced Akpata’s resignation on Thursday, saying he formally notified partners of his decision to enter active politics. In line with the firm’s governance rules, it was mutually agreed that Akpata would leave his post effective August 31st.
The move will allow Akpata to fully focus on his political ambitions, including an expected run for governor of Edo State on the Labour Party ticket.
Akpata recently joined Labour and expressed interest in contesting the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo.
In their statement, Templars thanked Akpata for his significant contributions to the firm’s growth. The firm assured clients they will continue receiving excellent service from over 100 lawyers, led by 20 partners across Nigeria and Ghana.
Akpata served as NBA president from 2020 to 2022 before pursuing politics full-time.
