The national power grid in Nigeria has collapsed for the fourth time in 2024, leading to a widespread blackout across the country.

The collapse occurred around 3 PM and was confirmed by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

In a statement, EEDC announced that the grid failure has affected their ability to provide electricity to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states. “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network,” the statement read.

The company further explained that due to the collapse, all their interfaces with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations are out of supply. “Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States,” said Emeka Ezeh, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications.

EEDC assured customers that they are on standby and awaiting detailed information on the collapse and the restoration of power from the National Control Centre in Osogbo.
