Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered its third collapse within a week, plunging the country into another widespread blackout.

The latest failure happened on Saturday morning, in a statement issued at 8:40 a.m by the Nigeria National Grid through their official X (formerly Twitter) page stating that all power distribution companies across the country were left with zero megawatts of electricity.

The affected DisCos include major providers such as Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola, all recording 0 MW.

“Abuja DisCo – 0 MW; Benin DisCo – 0 MW; Eko DisCo – 0 MW; Enugu DisCo – 0 MW; Ibadan DisCo – 0 MW; Ikeja DisCo – 0 MW; Jos DisCo – 0 MW; Kaduna DisCo – 0 MW; Kano DisCo – 0 MW; PHarcourt DisCo – 0 MW; Yola DisCo – 0 MW,” read the post from the grid operator.

With an expected power output of approximately 4,800 MW, this collapse is particularly concerning, as it comes amid ongoing efforts to restore stability to the grid.

Earlier in the week, the grid had collapsed on both Monday and Tuesday, causing widespread outages and disruptions.
