The National Film Corporation (NFC) has signed an agreement to partner the French National Centre for Cinema on film making and training of lecturers.

The Director-General of the corporation, Dr Chidia Maduekwe, while receiving the Regional Audiovisual Attache, Embassy of France in Nigeria, Mr Yoann Talhourne, said the partnership would revamp the NFC into a reference university in the country and the world at large.

The National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image is an agency of the French Ministry of Culture which is responsible for the production and promotion of cinematic and audiovisual arts in France.

“Your coming here is a very timely one as it is coming when the corporation is ready to climb to higher heights, this partnership is very important to us.

“France is very committed to matters of culture and well known for its decency, we saw it fit that we could draw lessons and learn from your wealth of experience and expertise.

“It is a blessing in disguise that this country is participating in this partnership, it is our resolve to reform the institute into a reference university; I have no doubt that the French Government will help us achieve that,’’ Maduekwe said.

The NFC director-general said that taking the institution to greater heights required physical infrastructure, training of tutors, lecturers, others, but added that the agency could not do it alone due to its lean budget allocation.
