The management of Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, has matriculated 560 newly admitted students of the 2020/2021 academic session into its Consultancy Services Unit (CSU).

Rector of the institution, Dr Justina Kotso, made this known during the matriculation ceremony held at the institution in Lafia, on Saturday.

Kotso, who was represented by Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, Deputy Rector (Administration), welcomed the newly admitted students and informed them that the matriculation exercise was a statutory gathering to formally admit qualified candidates offered admission into the CSU.

She explained that out of a total 560 students that had been matriculated, 280 were for Pre-Higher National Diploma (Pre-HND), while the remaining 280 students were for Diploma courses.

Kotso urged the new CSU students to get themselves equipped for the years ahead, by cultivating and displaying exemplary character in addition to the goals they seek to achieve in the institution.

“It is the combination of good academic achievement and good character that will make you the type of future leaders Nigeria needs,” she said.

She warned that the management, under her leadership, would deal decisively with any student or group that attempted to hold to ransom, the good intentions of the state government and the institution’s management.

“We shall be reminding you constantly about simple code of ethics. It will be up to you to conform to them, but let it be clear to all that the polytechnic authorities will not fold its arms while others try to bring it to disrepute,” she said.

She also assured them that the management was determined to protect them from all miscreants and urged them to always inform the management of any unusual activities on campus, so that action could be taken before any damage was done.

In an interview, Alhaji Hamza Mohammed, Managing Director, Consultancy Services Unit, said despite the low number of matriculated students compared to previous years, there had been an improvement with the current matriculated set.

“We are doing our best and things have started changing. If you were here last year, the number of students admitted was not up to 500, but now, it is more than 500. So, gradually, admission of students will increase,” he said.
