Nasarawa Assembly wants more funds for agric ministry to boost water supply

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has appealed to the State Government to release more funds to the state Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources to enable it to tackle the challenges facing the water sector in the state.

Mr. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Acting Chairman of the House Standing Committee, made the appeal when the State Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Prof. Allahnana Otaki, led other management members to appear before the committee on the ministry’s 2020 budget assessment in Lafia.

Iliya Zhekaba (PDP) said that the committee invited the ministry in order to assess its 2020 budget performance with the view to addressing the challenges it had discovered.

He commended the management of the ministry for being up and doing in providing water and other services to the people of the state.

He said that he who provided water, provided life as human beings could sustain their lives without water.

“I want to appeal to the government to as a matter of urgency give the ministry more funds in order to tackle water supply challenges in the state.

“This is because there are reported cases of pipeline vandalism along Keffi, Garaku, and Doma axis, among other local government areas.

“The provision of the funds will help in addressing the challenges facing the water sector in the state,” he said.

The Chairman assured of the committee’s readiness to give the ministry the much-needed support it deserved to enable it to succeed.

Earlier, the Commissioner, while presenting the ministry’s 2020 budget performance commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for giving attention to the agricultural sector and other sectors in the state.

Otaki also appreciated the state legislators for supporting the ministry to succeed in its tasks.
