The National Association of Resident Doctors says some of its members currently working in different COVID-19 treatment centres across the country from its ongoing strike.
The doctors are demanding, amongst other things, payment of all salaries arrears, review of the current hazard allowance to 50 per cent of consolidated basic salaries of all health workers and payment of the outstanding COVID-19 allowance especially in state-owned tertiary institutions.
Others are immediate payment of all salary arrears including March salaries for their members in all Federal and State Tertiary Health Institutions across the country especially in ASUTH, IMSUTH and UNIMEDTH.
According to NARD President, Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, noted that resident doctors including those working in isolation centres had been involved in the industrial action, saying the association might consider excluding those at the frontline from the strike.
He, however, insisted that the strike would continue until the government meets their demands
In a related development, Chairman of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Nnamdi Nd-Ezuma, also disclosed to The Guardian that the isolation centres in the FCT were still functional, noting that there were consultants and other medical doctors who are not members of NARD that were attending to the patients.
