The father of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has dismissed recent claims by Marian Music boss Naira Marley, who publicly denied any involvement in the hardships the singer endured before his death.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Aloba maintained that his son was harassed under Marley’s influence, despite the music executive’s efforts to distance himself from the allegations.
He explained that he had once confronted Naira Marley after Mohbad shared troubling experiences with him and that he later personally observed incidents that supported his son’s claims.
“I went to see Naira Marley over some of the things Mohbad had said, and that was all. But later, a lot of other things happened that I personally witnessed. There were about three other people present at the time; two of them are still alive today. They were people working with Naira Marley, even though they were younger and still under him. One of them once came to me to report that Naira Marley was beating Mohbad,” Aloba said.
He further recounted a meeting with Marley intended to resolve the matter, describing the encounter as disrespectful.
“When we went to see him to apologise, he wasn’t even speaking respectfully. People think I went there to collect money, but life is much more than just what I want to eat,” he added.
The remarks come amid ongoing public debate surrounding the circumstances of Mohbad’s passing and the role his former record label may have played in his struggles.
