Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, the actress recently sentenced to six months in prison for tampering with new Naira notes, took to TikTok to debunk rumors of her incarceration.
In a video shared on the platform, she reassured her followers, saying, “Ignore whatever you see online ooo I am home and safe,” while enjoying a plate of Ewedu and Amala.
The news of Omoseyin’s alleged imprisonment had circulated earlier, reporting her conviction and sentencing by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had issued a statement on Thursday, detailing her conviction for spraying and stepping on the new Naira notes at a social event in Lagos.
The actress had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges when arraigned on February 13, 2023, and was subsequently granted bail on February 15, 2023.
However, during the recent court hearing, Omoseyin changed her plea to guilty in light of the overwhelming evidence against her.
In the courtroom, the prosecution counsel, Z.B. Atiku, had presented evidence, including an extra-judicial statement, forensic report of her phone, and videos showing her spraying the Naira notes.
Justice Aneke admitted these as exhibits and convicted Omoseyin, despite a plea for leniency from her defense counsel.
In her statement to the commission, Omoseyin claimed to have received the new Naira notes from her fans at the party, denying knowledge of the individuals who gave her the money.
