NAHCON extends 2024 Hajj registration deadline
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has decided to extend the registration period for the 2024 hajj due to a lower-than-expected turnout of prospective participants, moving the deadline to January 31, 2024.
NAHCON spokesperson Fatima Sanda Usara explained that the decision to shift from the initial deadline of December 31, 2023, was prompted by numerous requests from various religious communities, emphasizing the importance of providing ample opportunities for a broader range of faithful individuals eager to undertake the sacred pilgrimage.
Usara stated, “The overwhelming request for extension from various religious communities underscores the significance of ensuring accessibility to a broader spectrum of the faithfuls eager to embark on the spiritual journey of Hajj.”
NAHCON expressed confidence that, with the support of sister agencies, the total cost of the 2024 Hajj would be determined before the new deadline expires.
The extension offers a chance for new registrants to enroll, and by the end of January, those needing to complete payment balances will also have the opportunity to do so.
NAHCON reminded that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set February 25 as the end date for signing all contracts, marking the conclusion of payments into IBAN accounts.
Despite the extension stretching NAHCON’s preparatory timeline, the commission reiterated Chairman Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi’s commitment to addressing stakeholders’ concerns.
The commission expressed gratitude to religious leaders, state boards, and governors for their advocacy for the pilgrims, highlighting the collaborative efforts as a testament to the shared commitment to facilitating a meaningful and inclusive Hajj experience for all.
