The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control has launched a three-day operation across markets in Bauchi State to remove counterfeit Milo chocolate drinks from circulation.

This initiative, led by the Bauchi State NAFDAC office, commenced on Tuesday following a directive from the agency’s headquarters.

The State Director of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Kamai, confirmed the exercise on Wednesday.

He explained that the inspections are focused on markets and superstores across the state to ensure that the fake Milo products are identified and removed from shelves.

“This exercise will last for three days starting Tuesday,” Dr. Kamai said, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health by eliminating counterfeit products.

In addition to the crackdown on fake Milo, NAFDAC has scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the Agro Chemical Dealers Association within the week. The agency aims to educate the dealers on the dangers of using certain chemicals, particularly Dichlorvos and Paraquat, for food storage as the harvest season approaches.

“These are dangerous chemicals that have been banned for some time,” Kamai noted, stressing the importance of proper chemical use in food preservation.

Dr. Kamai also urged bakers and packaged water producers in Bauchi to renew their licenses within the mandated two-year timeline. He warned that failure to do so could result in penalties that might disrupt their business operations.

Additionally, he encouraged small and medium enterprises to register their products with NAFDAC to ensure their smooth entry into the Nigerian market.
