Airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force have killed a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province, Bashir Dauda, along with 49 fighters in Marte, Borno State.
The strikes also targeted and destroyed an ISWAP supply depot in the Jubularam area, where terrorists had stored a large amount of food and essential supplies.
NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa shared the news in a statement on Tuesday. He explained, “The NAF conducted a series of air interdictions targeting three significant enclaves of ISWAP terrorists in Marte Local Government Area on October 31.”
He added, “The precision strikes were focused on ISWAP strongholds in Tumbun Daribiyar, Jubularam, Buluwa, and Tumbu Karfe, marking a major effort in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Nigeria’s Northeast.”
A ground assessment confirmed that about 50 terrorists, including Bashir Dauda, were killed. In addition, NAF forces destroyed an ISWAP storage site filled with essential supplies like beans, millet, and rice, which served as a crucial resource for the group.
Akinboyewa noted that these airstrikes demonstrate the Nigerian Air Force’s “commitment to supporting ground forces and enhancing joint efforts to decimate terrorist strongholds in the region.”
