A Nigerian Air Force airstrike on Tuesday destroyed a mass wedding ceremony attended by suspected bandits at Asaula Hills in Yankuzo ward, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack, carried out by the air component of Operation FANSAR YANMA under Sector 2 Command, followed credible intelligence that dozens of armed men from various enclaves were converging on the rugged hilltop for the celebration.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the strike took place at about 4:00 pm. Over 100 motorcycles were said to be spotted at the location, with heavily armed men gathered at the venue. The jet strike hit during the height of the event, catching them off guard.
“The wedding brought together fighters from Faskari and Kankara LGAs in Katsina State, and from across Zamfara. Dozens were neutralised on the spot, while many others sustained critical injuries,” a source said.
Local informants said at least 10 bodies were recovered before nightfall, while several others were burnt beyond recognition. About 33 injured bandits were reportedly taken for treatment to the Comprehensive Health Centre in Yankuzo and nearby villages.
