NAACP to honour Rihanna with President’s Award

Pop icon, Rihanna, is set to be honoured with the NAACP President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards on BET for her enviable commitment and input to music, culture, fashion and beauty.

The award which is set to take place later this month will see Rihanna becoming the 51st recipient of the prestigious award.

In a statement by Derrick Johnson, President and CEO OF NAACP, “Rihanna has not only enjoyed a groundbreaking career as an artist and musician but has also distinguished herself as a stellar public servant;

”From her business achievements through Fenty to her tremendous record as an activist and philanthropist, Rihanna epitomizes the type of character, grace, and devotion to justice that we seek to highlight in our President’s Award.”

Besides making giant strides in the music industry, Rihanna has distinguished herself in the beauty world with her Fenty Beauty, her fashion line, FENTY and her lingerie brand, Savage x Fenty and this move has seen her become;

“The first woman of colour to partner with LVMH and the first woman to start an original brand for the world’s largest luxury group.”

The award according to an official press release is given “in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service.

Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, Soledad O’Brien, and Muhammad Ali are recipients.
