The Delta State Government has ordered the immediate withdrawal of a disciplinary query issued to Osato Edobor, a student of the School of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, following her involvement in a viral social media video during First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s recent visit to the state.

In a statement released on Friday via X, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, confirmed the withdrawal of the query, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting students’ rights and fostering a conducive learning environment.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, has directed the immediate withdrawal of the query issued to Nursing Student Osato Edobor by the Provost of the School of Nursing Sciences, Agbor,” the statement read.

Speaking further in a video address, Onojaeme reassured the public that there was no intention to victimise the student over the incident.

“On the trending letter of query issued to the student of the School of Nursing, Agbor, I’ve instructed the provost to withdraw the letter. We don’t want to victimise any of the students,” he stated.

He also disclosed that he had personally contacted Edobor to confirm that the disciplinary action had been rescinded.

“I’ve also reached out to the student in question, and the student has confirmed to me that the letter was withdrawn late yesterday night,” he added.

Recall that Edobor had faced disciplinary action after allegedly recording and posting a TikTok video during the official visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Asaba on March 25, 2025.

The visit was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme, during which 10,000 professional kits, including Crocs and scrubs, were distributed to midwives across the South-South region.

A letter from the institution’s management had cited Edobor’s actions as a breach of the student handbook, describing the post as “malicious” and in violation of regulations against unauthorized recordings and online publications.

The school directed Edobor to submit a written explanation within 24 hours, justifying why disciplinary measures should not be taken against her.
