Myanmar reports 28 more Omicron infections

Myanmar on Thursday reported 28 more Omicron cases, bringing the tally to 348, according to a release from the Ministry of Health.

The release said the Omicron variant was found in 12 returnees from Singapore, five each from the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia, four from South Korea and one each from India and Indonesia.

According to the ministry’s latest figures, the number of COVID-19 infections rose to 536,904 in Myanmar after 368 new cases were reported, with a daily positivity rate of 1.45 percent in the past 24 hours.

The country’s death toll still stood at 19,310 as of Thursday, the ministry said.

A total of 513,662 patients had been discharged from hospitals and over 6.44 million samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far in the country.

Myanmar detected its first two COVID-19 positive cases in March 2020.
